Studio support club

Studio Support Club is a virtual forum that offers artists a safe and dependable place to work through the challenges that arise within their studio practice. We will hold space for the usual suspects: imposter syndrome, coping with rejection, and the challenges and frustrations of trying to make ends meet— as well as larger concerns about our work’s impact on the world and the function of art in these impossibly challenging times.

Intention

Our focus is on facilitating art by supporting each other through our practices. As artists, we often face unique challenges and experiences and this can feel isolating. The fears, triumphs, and vulnerabilities are difficult to convey to others, particularly non-artists. We often struggle to feel seen. If we’re lucky, we may have a network of artist friends who support us through the enormity of the questions we face. Even so, life gets in the way. As artists, we are one another’s greatest resource and The Weight of the World Club is simply a means of bringing us together.

The Studio Support Club is not a critique group, it is not a networking platform, and it is not interested in developing professional skills. Instead, it is a place for artists to provide support to each other, talk through challenges, and share resources.

“The world needs more artist groups like this.”

“Studio support club was not only a space for networking but also for collective problem solving.”

“Getting to chat with a group of artists and gaining a group of friends that I can call on in the future.”

“I love that this was not a crit group but rather an evolving conversation about our creative practices, whatever they may currently be.”

“I most enjoyed the feeling of camaraderie in the shared struggles of maintaining an art practice”

“I loved this experience”
